Wine and Cheese

So its no secret… I LOVE ME SOME WINE!

Lets start from the beginning. On Drew and my third date I ordered a glass of Riesling with my meal, not that there is anything wrong with that, but Drew was very confused. Well while I took a powder room break, he switched it up and ordered me a glass of red. Well I JUST turned 21 and my pallet was NOT fond of red wine.. yet. BUT I gave it a try and sorta kinda liked it. Then over the next few months…. then years. I fell in LOVE with red wine. So I blame Drew for my red wine obsession. So it was only perfect for us to go to Napa for part one of our honeymoon and that made me fall in love with red wine EVEN MORE! (if that was even possible)

SO this brings me to my favorite expensive and inexpensive red (and white) wines. I am adding pictures of the labels, because that always helps me find certain wines. (me and my photographic memory!haha) Also the prices at my local liquor stores.

Expensive Red Wines

I have two absolute favorites!

First is Cristom Pinot Nior Marjorie Valley- $65 Liquor Store

This wine is FABULOUS. It has a very sweet succulent taste and has a core of ripe fruit. It also has a cinnamon taste to it (maybe thats just me haha) Its DELICIOUS!

Next is PlumpJack Merlot- $75+ at liquor store

We actually visited this Vineyard in Napa and I FELL IN LOVE with this wine. It is a strong mouth feel at first, but when the wine gets some air it is OUTSTANDING. It has a plum, vanilla and cherry taste. SO good!

Middle Range Red Wine

Ferrari Carano Merlot- 22+ Liquor StoreThis wine is fabulous without food! It has a strawberry, brown sugar, creme brulee taste! YUM huh! It is a VERY velvety wine. This is always my go to wine when I am purchasing a gift for someone. It’s a great merlot for a non merlot drinker. SO good! Francis Coppola Claret- $16 Liquor Store

I discovered this wine at a restaurant in town. It is actually a Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec blend. It has a great structure and has a wild berry taste! (It also is a really fabulous packaged wine, it has this gold wire over it!) Louis M Martini Cabernet Souvignon- $15-$25 Liquor Store
This is a great any day wine. It has a nice dark Cherry, plum, oak flavor. You should be able to find this one anywhere! And the “Cheap” Red Wine

14 Hands Merlot or Cab- $10 Liquor StoreThis is at quite a few restaurants. The Cab has a spicy fruity flavor and the Merlot is more subtle with a soft mocha flavor. Both are great!
Since I am not the biggest White Wine fan, I am going to list my two favs! Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio $22-$30 This wine is excellent. Such a nice sweet, tangy, light wine. Perfect for an afternoon drink on a saturday, shopping with friends : ) And Last, Mapema Sauvignon Blanc (not sure but Internet is leading me to around $14)

I had this wine just the other day and it BLEW me away! Like I said, I am no white wine drinker and this was perfect! It has a strong mango flavor but so light and crisp! LOVE it! So I hope you enjoyed my little wine tour haha. Now time for a little cheese….. Sadie in her Itsy, Bitsy, teenie weenie, yellow polka dot bikini! : )

oh my my! haha. Have a great day guys! XOXO

You HAVE to try "A" by Acacia Pinot Noir – it's about $20 at the store and my absolute favorite red wine. Well…Cakebread Pinot Noir is my FAVORITE, but it's way more expensive 🙂 Definitely save that for a special occassion!!

I love how he switched the wines on you…. I love Beajoulis Nouveau… I think I spelled it totally wrong, but its cheap and my favorite red wine so far!! xxxooo

  4. Mrs. Potts

Both Mr. Potts & I are big fans of wine. A good $10-$14 bottle of Pinot Noir is Terrazas. We love any Malbec, but there is one we call Donkey b/c it has a braying donkey on the label – it is wonderful!

Nobilo makes a good Sauvingon Blanc that I drink in the summer.

i always order red wine for work events – because even though i like it- i dont love it like i do white wine- sooo if i order red i'm sure to only have one glass- not one bottle haha

I was the same way when I first started drinking wine, I only drank whites. Now I hardly ever drink whites. I guess I am a bit of a wine snob now.

I was JUST going to do a post on this last week. I actually started out with red wine as I never liked the taste of white wines, and strangely enough most of them give me the worst headaches/stomachaches. I always Ooohh and Ahhh at the Francis Coppola wine, you are right…prettiest packaging ever! I will have to try a couple of these…if you get the chance my fav. cheap wine is the cabernet or merlot by 'Smoking loon', I even saw it in one of the houses of the Real housewives of OC a few seasons ago!

Oh girl have you ever tried Bogle Wine? It's made out of Clarksburg, CA it's DELICIOUS! It's a cheap wine that we love! They have tons of different choices too I don't know how far away they sell but you should try it if you see it.

I am exactly the same way… with all of the wine tasting I have grown a much deeper love of wine. My favorite is Rombaur Zin… if you ever see it, grab a bottle, it is absolutely the best wine I have ever had! 🙂
